About this section
Veterinarians who drive out to the farm and those who receive animals at their own premises. Each listing spells out the scope of practice: examination and treatment, vaccination and parasite control, surgery, assistance at lambing and calving, ultrasound and pregnancy diagnosis. A separate flag shows whether the vet answers urgent calls at any hour. Radius and open days sit right beside it, and those two decide the shortlist, because a vet two hundred kilometres away will not reach a hard lambing at night. In a first message give the species, the age, the visible symptoms and how many head are affected, so the vet can say straight away whether to travel or to advise.
When is a call urgent?
A hard birth, bloat, refusal of feed together with fever, several deaths in a row, or suspected poisoning. Hours matter, which is why urgent visits are flagged separately in this branch.
What should be ready before the visit?
A place where the animal can be restrained, water, light, and your notes: what was given and when, and what changed in the feed. Half of any diagnosis comes from that history rather than from the examination.
Do vets vaccinate a whole flock?
Yes, vaccination and parasite treatment are the most common call out jobs. Agree in advance whose vaccine is used and how it travels, because the cold chain matters more than the brand.
How much does a visit cost?
The provider sets the figure and the card carries a starting price line for it. Distance, the number of head and the hour of the day all move the total, so settle them before the vet sets off.
