Machinery and parts
1 listingAbout this section
The machinery branch covers three sections: light equipment, spare parts and consumables, trailers and carts. Compact tractors, two wheel tractors, mowers, balers, grain crushers, pumps and generators sit in the first; blades, belts, bearings and filters in the second; livestock, flatbed and tipping trailers and tankers in the third. One field runs through them all, the condition, new or used, and that is where the filtering starts. A machine is looked at in person and started while the seller watches, while a part is matched by its unit number, because items that look alike often fail to fit a neighbouring model.
What matters when buying used equipment?
Start it cold in front of you, watch the smoke, feel for play, look for fresh paint over welds. On a mower or baler check the cutting gear and the bearings, on a trailer check the frame and the axles.
How do I know a part will fit?
Every listing has a field for the machine it suits, where the seller names the model the part goes on. Match the unit number and the mounting dimensions rather than the look of the thing.
When should consumables be bought?
Ahead of the season. Blades, belts and twine run out for everybody in the same week of haymaking, and after that people drive hundreds of kilometres for them at whatever price is asked.
